Missing High School x School Friends

A couple of weeks ago, when I went to withdraw, I saw some graduands, high school graduands, to be precise, heading to the E-Phoenix Hotel, Tanke, Ilorin, for their prom/after-grad dinner(I’m not sure). They were dressed in a uniform blue color. The girls were dressed in amazing blue gowns, and the boys were wearing blue/black shirts with blue/black blazers and trousers.

It brought back memories of my own prom, and my high school years. I miss that place so much. It wasn’t always rosy, trust me. The good, the bad, the punishments, the floggings, and everything. I miss them all.

I miss Oluchi and Joy and Onyinye and Regina and Ayomide and Elizabeth and Maryann and Chidinma and Glory. I miss Godwin and Great and Joshua and John and Kingsley and Mayowa. I miss those 5 beautiful years. I’d trade this dead uni life for it in a heartbeat.

People have been telling me, however, that I’ll miss uni when I graduate. I dont think that’s possible lol. I mean, the only good thing about uni life so far has been my friends, and they’ll be with me forever IJN. I think that’s the difference between uni and secondary school friends.

Secondary school best friends and uni best friends differ in a number of ways. Secondary school is a step you have to take very early on in life. From there, you and your friends have to go to different institutions of higher learning, studying different courses, you’re pulled apart. A reality shock that meets you after secondary school, you come to realization that your friends stayed your friends because you took classes together and saw each other 5 days a week. It takes special effort, tbh, to keep up with S.S. friends when you’re not in the same university. I’m in the same university as Regina and I’ve been doing a terrible job keeping up. Shout out to the people I still talk to- Great, Godwin, Mayowa, Onyinye, Glory and Ayo(sometimes) Uni best friends, however, are usually forever. These are friends you make in your adult(somehow) life, keep up with no matter the stress of classes, tests and exams.

I mean, I never want to lose my uni friends. They’re going to be with me for life, IJN. Jireh is going to be my chief bridesmaid and godmother of my first child. Feranmi is going to be my assistant chief bridesmaid and godmother of my second child. 😂😂 Temi, Rai and Fade are going to be on my bridal train. I love these girls man.

Hi there!

My name is Ru, or Oyinda. I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember, and my love for books has only grown stronger over the years. There’s something so special about getting lost in a story and then sharing those thoughts with others. On this blog, you’ll find book reviews, honest (and sometimes rambling!) bookish thoughts, recommendations across different genres, and many more for fellow book lovers. Whether you’re searching for your next read or just want to chat about books, you’re in the right place.
