Indomie Café Review: An Indomie-only Restaurant Now Exists, And I’m Here for It

Overall Thoughts

If you grew up in Nigeria, you definitely ate Indomie all through your childhood/teen years. As a uni student in Nigeria (especially in a public uni where you had to cook your own meals), Indomie was most likely one of your staple foods. If you’re that much of an Indomie lover, then you must have, once or twice, imagined a place where you can go to get Indomie served to you in different flavors and forms (no be meshai plis). Well, great news my loves, you can make your way out of your imagination, and head to Indomie-only restaurants that actually exist IRL!!!

You read that right. I actually discovered one of them accidentally. I was meeting a friend for the first time, and he suggested Silverbird Galleria, VI (Lagos). I went there, got to the top floor, and BOOM!!! I discovered Indomie Café, an Indomie-only restaurant. It did not click at first, ‘cause I just saw some indomie lifesize stickers around the place and thought they were just ads. I went to the concession stand and bought pepsi, and when I wanted to sit down, I saw Indomie menu LMAO. That was when I looked around and noticed the Indomie counter and everything.  This post is about the Silverbird Galleria location, so note that as you read on, thank you.

The Interior

The décor and space are actually impressive, and I think they tried to adopt an oriental theme. On their flyer, they claimed to be the first noodle bar in Nigeria, and I think that’s true (I don’t go out or know anywhere, so pls tell me if they’re not LMAO). What I didn’t like was that there was nowhere to charge (unlike in Spur where every table has 2 sockets), and someone came to tell my friend he couldn’t even use his laptop there. It was funny LMAO ‘cause what’s THAT?! It’s 2019 and I can’t work where I eat? Abeg Abeg. So yeah, you can’t charge or use your laptop there.

The Menu is diverse-ish with different sections, and the prices are actually very reasonable for a place on the island and stuff. The prices are also fair compared to the size and serving of the food. They don’t let you have appetizers with extras, so that’s sad LOL. They have two food serving options for their main courses – the mini (600 naira) and the maxi (1000 naira). The appetizers, salads, and desserts are sold for 500 naira, and the extras are sold for 300 naira.

The Food

I wanted to order the Tongue Twister (an appetizer) with Shredded Chicken (an extra), but I was told I couldn’t, so I ordered the Jollof-Mie and Shredded Chicken. It took a while for our order to be fulfilled because there was only one person there making all the customers’ food. They make the food right in front of you, and it’s served the food inside oyster pails, just like Chinese food (again, Oriental theme). We were given forks wrapped inside tissue and at first I thought they were chopsticks so I started laughing. The food was really (maybe too) spicy, especially the chicken LOL. I can’t judge the other menu items, cause I didn’t try them, but I saw the frittata (pancake-style indomie) they made for someone else, and it looked pretty cool sha.

Indomie Café: Overall Thoughts

I love the space and the décor. The fact that you get to watch the food being made in front of you is cool. I did not like that there was just one person making the food though, it reminded me of my cooking games like Cooking Fever where you had to attend to all customers before they got angry and left LMAO. I also did not like that there’s no space to charge AND that laptops are not allowed. That’s somehow LOL. I looooovvvvveeeeeeee the oyster pails, and I love that the prices are moderate.
