2020, is that you?

2020 always felt like that year that would never arrive. It was this glossy and picture perfect illusion, especially in the media. You had the “vision 2020” dreams that our Nigerian leaders were selling us, and the Hollywood picture of a technologically advanced 2020 with flying cars and talking robots everywhere. There have been so many predictions of the world ending before 2020, but here we all are.

2019 was hard. Nothing tragically tragic happened to me but it was still so hard. Something really snapped inside my soul and it was revelation after revelation that at the end of the day, I’m all alone. I really stopped making efforts to be a better person to anybody and too many of my relationships suffered for it. I just realized a lot of people didn’t rate me like I rated them so I stopped rating them and honestly, best decision ever. I don’t hate anybody or have any hard feelings, but not going out of my way for people who won’t go out of their way for me has been extremely relieving.

I’m not doing new year resolutions, but this is the year I turn 21. How horribly unlucky do I have to be for my birthday to fall on the first Monday of the year, when everyone has to resume work. Ew, the ghetto. I always imagined my 21st and how I’d turn up with everyone but I guess we’ll postpone it till the 22nd, that’s if I have any friends left.

Anywayyyyy, happy new year’s, guuyyyssss. I hope we all have an amazing 2020.

Hi there!

My name is Ru, or Oyinda. I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember, and my love for books has only grown stronger over the years. There’s something so special about getting lost in a story and then sharing those thoughts with others. On this blog, you’ll find book reviews, honest (and sometimes rambling!) bookish thoughts, recommendations across different genres, and many more for fellow book lovers. Whether you’re searching for your next read or just want to chat about books, you’re in the right place.
