This book had everything, and I loved every bit of it. The characters were beautifully written, and it wasn’t hard to fall in love with them. Addie, Henry, and The Darkness made up the main characters of this book and each of them has a place in my heart. Apart from beautiful characters, this book has no shortage of beautiful romances and love stories. Due to the nature of Addie’s curse, you’d think it was impossible for her to have any love in her life, but V E Schwab was able to work her curse into such amazing love stories.

Written and told over the course of 300 years, this book spanned centuries and from different characters’ perspectives, and it was so wonderful. Julia Whelan did such a great job with the audiobook narration. She was perfect for this book and made sure I felt all the feels.

Addie’s character was EVERYTHING, and we get to see her grow, evolve, shed lives, and adapt. Over the course of 300 years, Addie becomes so many things. The magic in this book is also so amazing. It was confusing, the terms of Addie’s curse at first and after reading the blurb and starting the book I wondered how it would work. The reality and understanding of the curse was so heartbreaking, especially at the beginning, immediately after she made the deal.

Henry was another very interesting character in the book and the fact that he was able to remember Addie puzzled me to no end. He was a mystery on his own and I wanted to get to the root of who/what he was. I enjoyed him so much, and I thoroughly enjoyed his romance with Addie. He was so beautifully written and I loved his purpose in the grander scheme of things.

The Darkness is an enigma. He’s a character that’s supposed to be hated because of what he represents and what he did, but because of the way he’s written and develops over the course of the book, it’s almost impossible to just hate him!
